As the UK prepares for another winter of unpredictable weather, Marshalls Water Management is calling for a shift in how the industry plans, invests, and builds for the future. The upcoming AMP8 investment cycle (2025–2030) presents a pivotal opportunity to deliver integrated, climate-resilient drainage infrastructure that helps communities adapt to a changing climate – a message reinforced during Flood Action Week (13–18 October).

According to government data, over 6.3 million homes and businesses in England remain at risk of flooding – and the challenge is intensifying as extreme rainfall events become more frequent.

The UK has just experienced its first named storm of the 2025/2026 season as Storm Amy which saw strong winds and heavy rain batter much of the country. This devastation emphasises the tremendous pressure the UK’s current antiquated drainage networks are facing, and that action is needed sooner rather than later.

Paul Curtis, Managing Director of Marshalls Water Management, said: “As Flood Action Week reminds us, raising awareness is only the first step – taking action through sustainable infrastructure is essential to protect communities. AMP8 presents a pivotal opportunity. With billions of pounds due to be invested across the water sector, we must ensure that funding supports infrastructure capable of meeting the challenges of a changing climate. That means prioritising sustainable drainage and durable precast systems that not only manage water effectively, but also stand the test of time, genuinely protecting communities for generations.

“National goals are only meaningful if realised locally, and Marshalls’ breadth of experience enables us to support local authorities, developers, and contractors with more than just products – offering design insight, technical guidance, and compliance expertise every step of the way.”

AMP8 aims to deliver improvements across storm overflow reduction, wastewater capacity expansion, and sustainable drainage, with Marshalls’ precast concrete systems, sealed manholes, linear drainage, CSO tanks, and SuDS solutions directly supporting these goals. Marshalls’ UK-manufactured products allow for faster, modular deployment, providing cost-effective, durable, and low-carbon solutions that meet the modern demands of integrated water management. In addition, digital tools such as CPDs, BIM objects, and product data align with AMP8’s smart delivery and digital twin ambitions.

Paul added: "Aligned with AMP8 key themes, we focus on sustainable design and collaboration between water companies, highways authorities, and developers to create integrated flood resilience strategies. This investment period is crucial for safeguarding communities, and Marshalls Water Management is proud to be part of the journey upgrading drainage networks with precast systems designed to last 100+ years.

“Flood Action Week is an important reminder that tackling flooding requires both awareness and action. Through AMP8, Marshalls Water Management is helping ensure that investment translates into tangible, resilient infrastructure that protects people, places, and communities across the UK.”
