The BDMA and Flood Re to deliver ‘Sustainability Week’ workshops at a Lincolnshire school
The British Damage Management Association (BDMA) is the accreditation body of choice for the damage management and property restoration sector in the UK. Representing accredited claims and damage management professionals and businesses nationwide, the BDMA sets industry standards for best restoration practice in flood and fire recovery. Through training, accreditation and public engagement, the Association works to improve understanding of claims management and the importance of preparedness in the face of increasing environmental risks.
Partnering with the BDMA for this initiative is Flood Re, the UK’s not-for-profit reinsurance scheme created to make flood insurance more affordable and accessible for households in high-risk areas. Flood Re plays a key role in raising awareness about flood risk, climate adaptation, and practical steps communities can take to become more resilient.
The joint programme will take place at a school in Lincolnshire, a county that has historically experienced significant flood events due to its low-lying geography and extensive river and coastal systems. The region’s flood risk profile makes it a particularly relevant setting for educational engagement in relation to climate resilience and property protection. The school in question has flooded three times over the past 15 years – each time requiring extensive restorative and reparation works.
Over the course of a week in March, students aged 8 to 18 will participate in interactive workshops and speaker sessions designed to:
- Increase awareness of flood risk and its real-world impacts
- Explain how homes and communities can be made more resilient
- Introduce career pathways within the property restoration, insurance, and resilience sectors
- Encourage proactive thinking around climate change and environmental responsibility
“We are proud to be supporting a Lincolnshire school that has experienced flooding claims several times, as part of their Sustainability Week this March. Our aim is to inspire students to consider apprenticeships and careers in damage management, helping to raise awareness of the wide range of opportunities available across the industry sector.
A big thank you to Flood Re for their support with this event, as well as to our other confirmed speakers. We are also delighted that the Flood Mobile will be on-site to enhance the learning experience.” – Adrian Jolly, BDMA Executive Chair

We will be very pleased to welcome activity leaders from Flood Re, including Emma Holroyde, as well as representatives from the Local Environment Agency, Local Resilience Forums, and BDMA Trainers such as John Thompson, to the event. BDMA Chair, Adrian Jolly, will deliver an Insurance Careers talk alongside Tom Kirman‑Wright, Sustainability Careers Advisor at the University of Lincoln.
Emma Holroyde, Market Engagement Manager at Flood Re, said:
“We are proud to help equip the next generation of homeowners with a practical understanding of flood risk, resilience and insurance during this week‑long programme in Lincolnshire — a county with a long and challenging history of flooding. Alongside the interactive learning sessions, students will also experience the all‑new Floodmobile, launched in October 2025, which has already been at the forefront of property flood‑resilience education across the country, including in Monmouth, just days after severe flooding hit the area.
“We joined the BDMA as a corporate associate member in 2025, and the partnership is already proving to be hugely valuable. Thank you to the BDMA for bringing together such a strong programme. We’re thrilled to be working with them to make this important initiative possible.”
By bringing industry professionals directly into the classroom, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and real-world application, empowering young people with knowledge that is both locally relevant and nationally significant.
