Flood Control International were approached with a request to replace an existing double leaf mitred floodgate in South Wales. The existing gate design included low ground clearance, which wore the bottom seals out quickly and meant that the gates didn’t seal effectively along the sloped threshold, plus they were cumbersome to operate and latch/seal together in the centre.
The Flood Control team love a challenge! So, instead of scrapping the old gates, their proposed solution was to develop a smart, cost effective and eco-friendly solution!
Using their technical expertise and knowledge of their own floodgate designs, they were able to design a retrofit modification to the gates and convert them into lift-hinge gates! Retaining the gate panels and modifying the hinge and locking mechanisms meant that the gates could swing freely to open/close and then lower onto new base seals. Recent client feedback was that the gates work beautifully and the local users are very happy!
This innovative approach not only improved performance and operator experience, but also saved costs and carbon, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable solutions.
